Modern Slavery Statement
Modern Slavery Statement for Man and a Van Maida Vale
Man and a Van Maida Vale is committed to operating ethically, responsibly, and with integrity in all our business dealings. We oppose all forms of slavery, servitude, forced labour, human trafficking, and labour exploitation. This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps we take to prevent modern slavery in our operations and supply chains.
Our Business and Supply Chain
Man and a Van Maida Vale provides transport, removals, and related services. Our operations rely on our own staff, subcontracted drivers, vehicle hire providers, fuel suppliers, equipment providers, and other service partners. We recognise that modern slavery risks can exist at multiple tiers of the supply chain, particularly where low-skilled labour, subcontracting, or outsourced services are involved.
Zero-Tolerance Policy
We maintain a strict zero-tolerance stance on modern slavery and human trafficking. Any form of forced, bonded, or involuntary labour is strictly prohibited in our own operations and in those of the suppliers and subcontractors with whom we work. All relationships with suppliers and partners are contingent on their adherence to lawful and ethical labour practices, including compliance with applicable employment, health and safety, and human rights legislation.
We expect everyone working with or for Man and a Van Maida Vale, regardless of their role or relationship, to uphold these standards. Where we identify any breach or serious risk of breach, we will act promptly, which may include suspending or terminating the business relationship.
Supplier Standards and Due Diligence
We seek to work only with suppliers who share our commitment to ethical conduct. As part of our due diligence process, we assess key suppliers and subcontractors on their labour practices and ethical standards. We may request information on their workforce arrangements, recruitment processes, and policies relating to modern slavery, worker welfare, and health and safety.
Where appropriate, we require contractual assurances that suppliers will not engage in any form of modern slavery, and that they will pass these obligations down their own supply chains. We prioritise long-term relationships with reputable suppliers and review new suppliers carefully before engagement.
Supplier Audits and Monitoring
To reinforce our zero-tolerance approach, we conduct proportionate audits and checks of higher-risk suppliers and subcontractors. These audits may include reviewing documentation, requesting evidence of workforce policies, and, where feasible, visiting supplier sites. Our aim is to assess whether adequate controls are in place to prevent forced labour, child labour, or exploitative conditions.
If an audit or review identifies concerns, we will work with the supplier to agree corrective actions and timeframes. Where issues are not resolved or where severe breaches are identified, we reserve the right to end the relationship.
Reporting Concerns and Whistleblowing Channels
We encourage all employees, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to report any concerns related to modern slavery or unethical labour practices. Concerns may include suspicious recruitment fees, withholding of wages or identification documents, unsafe or degrading working conditions, or any indication that an individual is being controlled or coerced.
Reports can be made in person to management or senior staff within Man and a Van Maida Vale. We will take all reports seriously, investigate them promptly, and handle them as sensitively and confidentially as possible. We will not tolerate any form of victimisation or retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith.
Training and Awareness
We aim to increase awareness of modern slavery risks among our staff and key partners. This includes guidance on recognising potential signs of exploitation, understanding our zero-tolerance policy, and knowing how to raise concerns. By building knowledge and awareness, we strengthen our ability to identify and prevent modern slavery in practice.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We recognise that combating modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility. Man and a Van Maida Vale is committed to continually improving our processes and controls. We will review this Modern Slavery Statement at least once every year to reflect changes in our operations, legal requirements, and best practice standards.
As part of the annual review, we will consider the effectiveness of our due diligence, audit activities, and reporting channels, and we will make improvements wherever necessary. This Statement has been approved by the management of Man and a Van Maida Vale and will be updated and republished annually.
